We explore how datafication is tracing and transforming social and economic life. Our research examines what that means for organizations, management, and society.
Many members don’t primarily identify as “data scholars”. That’s by design. We’re an interdisciplinary group and welcome collaborators from any domain, field or methodological tradition.
What we study
Large-scale datafication is increasingly tracing and transforming social and economic life. We are curious about what that means for organizations, management, and society. We examine data as a focal phenomenon, influenced by strategy, structures and practices, reshaping value chains, infrastructures and industries.
Our lens is deliberately broad. We adopt an inclusive view of data and examine a range of issues along its lifecycle, from data sourcing and use in complex business and societal problems to political, ethical, and philosophical questions about what counts as data and how it should be governed.
Our projects span a variety of domains. Our members are experts in diverse topics, from citizen data science, digital health, game theory, sustainability and the circular economy, to quantum computing, digital transformation, and data governance.

From Context to Aesthetic A Nordic Perspective on Data Studies
Co-authored by members of the Data studies group, this position paper examines how context shapes assumptions about data. Introducing a Nordic aesthetic of social ethos, minimalism, and craftsmanship, the paper highlights new ways of understanding responsible use, collective governance, and sustainable value of data.
We grapple with some of the most pressing questions of the digital era.
How is data reshaping what we know? What kinds of value and risks are produced? Can data use be both innovative and responsible? Our research provides critical insights into these questions and push the boundaries for how data will shape business, society, and everyday life.
